VPNs and IPTV: What You Should Know
Many IPTV users ask whether they should run a VPN alongside their streaming setup. Here's a balanced breakdown.
What a VPN Does
A VPN routes your internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a server elsewhere, hiding your original IP address from the sites and services you connect to.
Potential Benefits
Extra privacy from your internet provider seeing your streaming traffic, and in some cases, access to geographically restricted content if your provider's servers are region-specific.
The Trade-Off: Speed
VPNs add a routing hop, which can reduce your effective streaming speed — sometimes enough to cause buffering on 4K content that streamed fine without one.
Our Recommendation
If you do use a VPN, choose a server location close to you geographically, and test playback quality before and after connecting to see whether it's worth the trade-off for your specific setup.
